Family Support
Provides services to families that have a child under the age of 22, living in the home, with a developmental disability. There are no family income guidelines. They provide services such as incontinence supplies, medications, formulas/special foods, transportation costs, recreational opportunities, special clothing, adaptive equipment, housing modifications, information and referrals, service coordination, advocacy services, respite care, family counseling, parent/sibling education, travel expenses for medical care, vehicle modifications.

Department of Social Services
Covers medical costs/medications to families that qualify financially. Either through the Chips program or Medicaid. Families who don’t qualify financially can still get coverage for children with a severe disability. Title 19 helps to cover the costs of traveling for medical appointments such as mileage, hotel, and food.

The state of South Dakota participates in a federal program called the Early Intervention Program for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities. In South Dakota we call this program Birth to Three Connections. Parents, teachers and health care providers know that children with delays are healthier and better learners when they receive early intervention services as early in their lives as possible. The state of South Dakota is committed to provideng services to youg children and their families.

MUMS-Mothers United for Moral Support, Inc
Mums is a national Parent-to-Parent organization for parents or care providers of a child with any disability, disorder, chromosomal abnormality or health condition. MUMS’ mission is to provide support to parents in the form of a networking system that matches them with other parents whose children have the same or similar condition.
