Melissa has been utilizing horse therapy other known as Hippo Therapy since she was two years old. We love this therapy for her. Lori one of Melissa’s Occupational Therapists has explained to me that a horse moves three demtionally, because of this it fires muscles on the rider that mimics walking. A horse also can make up to 500 movements a minute. It has helped build Melissa’s core muscles as well as her neck muscles. The interaction between Melissa and the horse is a joy to watch. Melissa has even started to pet the horse.
Hippo Therapy is different then just riding on a horse. A trained therapist will use different positions and equipment to individualize treatment for each person.
